Writing as cheap therapy

It isn't always wise to tell people our true feelings about things. It can lead to many misunderstandings even when there is no intent of hurting anyone's feelings. There are things that we need to say even if we can't say them out loud. Stating it is enough to get us through the rough moments. This is where writing can be a cheap sort of therapy for you.

Writing allows you to say whatever is on your mind. You don't have to hold back any words and you can have whatever attitude that you choose. You can be sad, angry or happy. You don't have to worry about having regrets for saying the wrong thing.

Babbling on and on isn't a problem. You can say the same thing over and over again without the worry bothering others with it. With a paper and pen or a computer, you can do whatever you want. These things don't care how much you "bother" them with your problems.

Writing is like having a friend to talk to that doesn't talk back. Many problems can be worked out in your own head if you write it down. You can then sort through what thoughts you had and decide what is worth saying out loud and what is better left unsaid.

We often say things that we don't mean when we are angry. Writing those feelings down first will allow you to get it out without saying cruel things that have nothing to do with the situation. Words can be very harmful if spoken in anger. They can leave a person feeling bad about themselves. Words can't be taken back. No matter how often we say we are sorry, it will always be with its target for many years to come. Writing it instead gives you the out that you are seeking and that person never has to know.

Writing also allows you to sort other issues that you have had to deal with. If you have gone through some horrible experience, writing allows you to chronicle the pain in a healthier way. Spending thousands of dollars in therapy can't make near the difference that a good writing session can.

Writing things down as they come to you is so easy. You may remember something that you want to talk to a therapist about only to forget it when you are sitting in his/her office. Writing also keeps you from being cut short because your time is up.

Putting your thoughts down in writing is an amazing way to get everything said that needs to be said. Give it a shot and you will certainly agree with that. There is a freedom in writing. It gives you much needed therapy and it's inexpensive to boot. When the chips are down, you can't beat a cheap source of therapy.
