Kids love pizza!
They would eat it everyday if we let them. From the time my boys were little, until they graduated high school, their favorite meal was always tortilla pizzas.
Tortilla pizzas are very inexpensive, easy and fun for the whole family. All you really need is a package of large tortillas, some sauce and some cheese, but that is only the start of the fun. Basically you start with a cookie sheet, and place a couple of tortillas on it. Then let the kids create their own personal pizzas from whatever ingredients you have around.
Kids love being included and can't complain that they don't like dinner, because they made it themselves. Over the years my boys got very creative with their tortilla pizzas, here is a sampling of some of their creations.
Taco Pizza: Salsa, left-over taco meat, cheddar cheese.
Hawaiian Pizza: Sweet and Sour sauce, ham, pineapple, green peppers and mozzarella cheese.
White Pizza: Alfredo sauce, chicken, mushrooms and mozzarella cheese
BBQ pizza: BBQ sauce, chicken, onions and smoked mozzarella
Classic Pepperoni: pizza sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni
Cheeseburger pizza: Ketchup, mustard, hamburger, pickle slices, onions and American cheese
Swiss cheese pizza: Alfredo sauce, ham, mushrooms, swiss cheese and bacon
Veggie delight: pizza sauce, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, mozzarella and tomato slices on top
Cheesy strips: Garlic butter and mozzarella cheese, after it's done cooking, cut into strips for dipping in sauce
Chicken Ranch: Ranch dressing, chicken, onions, green peppers and mozzarella
As you can see, the possibilities are endless. This ia also a fantastic way to make use of leftovers. Once the kids create their own personal pizza on the cookie sheet, just pop them into a 400 degree oven until the cheese is melted. As your kids get older they can even make these fun pizzas all on their own. My boys used to love to make them in high school after football practice.
Tortilla pizzas are also a wonderful activity for birthday and slumber parties. Just have lots of topping choices prepared before the party and let each child create their own unique pizza. The other children will talk about your party for years to come. My boy's friends still talk about their pizza parties, and they are all adults now.
Tortillas are very inexpensive and tasty pizzas can be made out of just about any ingredients you happen to have. Many times my boys thought they were getting a fun treat, when in reality, we just couldn't afford anything else until payday.
