You enter the fair gates and you are immediately flooded with the fantastic scents of one of the most anticipated things featured at the fair: THE FOOD! You pass vendor after vendor to see what each has to offer. The choices are beautifully overwhelming! Where should you start? Here is a list of some top 5 favorite fair foods, to help you on your journey.

CORN DOGS

The corn dog is such an amazing invention. It satisfies so many desired tastes! Its amazing sweet smell comes from the sweetened battered coating around the wiener. Not only does the breaded outside smell sweet, but it tastes equally as sweet! Many describe corn dogs as eating a doughnut wrapped hot dog. The act of frying it for the most perfect combination of crunchy and soft seals the deal. You simply cannot find another food like the corn dog. It's like having dessert and your main course at the same time!

FUNNEL CAKES

If you're simply looking for sweet treats, look no further than the funnel cake. It is possibly the most fragrant of all simply sweet foods at the fair. Walking up to a vendor frying funnel cakes can be compared to walking into a home that has a freshly baked cake in the oven. It is nearly impossible to resist! The hot cake comes straight out of the fryer, onto your plate, and is coated with a wonderful layer of powdered sugar. It's the perfect combination. A warm, pleasantly sweet treat for those cool fall fair nights is the perfect start to your fair experience!

CARAMEL APPLES

Though they lack much in the way of scent, the caramel apple is a beautiful treat that many love! From children to adults, apples with this delicious caramel topping are enjoyed by all. The caramel sets up to be the most wonderful chewy texture on the surface of a fantastically crunchy apple. For texture eaters, this is the perfect food choice! This is a sweet treat that many also feel good about eating, and many parents encourage their kids to use this nutritious dessert to satisfy their sweet tooth.

HOT DOGS

Next to the corn dog has to be the hot dog. Whether it is made with a fresh beef wiener or a polish sausage, hot dogs are one of the easiest and most filling of all fair foods. A freshly made hot dog, topped with a huge spoonful of just seared onions really hits the spot! Who can resist the sweet and spicy smell of onions mixed with that great hot dog scent?

COTTON CANDY

Is there a more traditional or fun food at the fair than cotton candy? Children anticipate eating this wonderfully messy treat from the moment they enter the gates! Cotton candy is a beautiful candy with such a fun, soft texture. Watching the vendor spin your own bag of cotton candy is one of the most amazing parts of enjoying this treat. The way it just melts in your mouth, and sticks to your fingers, makes cotton candy a time-honored tradition when it comes to fairs.

These are just five of the many wonderful foods fairs have to offer. With changing tastes and new ideas coming each season, fair goers anxiously await what yummy fair meals they will enjoy this fall!
