Dobbs in Glencairn, Ontario was a sleepy little village that garnered the name 'Dobbsville' by members of the Dobbs family. On a quiet road leading out of the village, four houses all owned by members of that family sat on large lots about 50 feet apart. Tammy Dobbs, 15, lived in the fourth house, which actually sat behind the third one where her aunt lived.
Often, she would cut across her aunt's yard, go down a hill, across a flat area of about 20 feet and then to a bridge, and make her way home. When she babysat for another aunt in the second house and would take the same path home at night.
Tammy made this trip on foot hundreds of times and every time she did, she sensed that she was not alone. It seemed as though it was "a hotspot for spirits. I always felt their presence," she said. "Others would say they felt 'spooked' or had an unknown fear of the area, but didn't know why."
Then one night, she saw the ghost of a wolf.
"Some nights on my way walk home from babysitting, I would see her standing at the top of the gully before the creak, about half way between myself and the road. She would just stand there and watch me walk past. I could see no more of her than a silhouette and on some darker nights, I could only sense her presence."
After seeing this phantom for some time, Tammy realized that there were never any footprints in the snow. She was stricken with fear, as this shadow of an animal seemed to be stalking her.
"Was I afraid? Yes! I do not remember why I thought this or how I came to this conclusion, but I sense that she was searching for her young. She was killed suddenly and returned there to search for her babies. She was also very angry and knew or maybe just blamed 'man' for her loss. I could sense her anger, but knowing wildlife as I did, I was sure she would keep her distance from me. She was more afraid of me than I was of her. I would keep walking and try to relax, so as not to show my fear."
Tammy continued to see this ghost wolf for a couple of years, without incident. Then one night, that all changed.
"I could sense that my spirit friend was there, but I could not see her, which was unusual. I could hear my wolf spirit breathing hard, fast and angry.
I had the feeling she had been waiting for me. But her breath came from the direction of the house, behind me and to the left, as if she had been waiting in the shadow of the house itself. I kept walking, unsure how to react to this change."
Then Tammy heard a low, deep growl that seemed
