Adult education and computer literacy

Adults were supposed to know more about computers than anyone else but still they are the ones that do not know that much about computers. Teens ans some kids do know more about these fantastic machines that most adults do.

What should an adult know about computers? Let's start with basic computer usage. An adult should know more than just turning the computer on. The adult must also know that the computer is a machine that needs maintenance, needs care and needs to be repaired some times. The user must also know how to use some software besides Windows like Office, Emails, Business Software and of course Internet related things.

With email the average adult computer user should know how to create an email for normal daily use. He should also know how to create contacts to have access to them quickly in case he uses it frequently and in case he forgets it. The same email user must know how to important older contacts from a previous email service and also how to send multiples emails to many contacts at the same time, for example to send the same email to an entire group. The person must finally know how to send attachments of files over email.

Next thing you need to know is how to use the Internet. You must know how to visit a website, how to search something, how to download software and also how to avoid bad things. First things first. To visit websites you must type it's full URL in the right place. You can do that on the top of the bar on your browser. If you do not know the correct URL there is a big chance of Google finding it for you so search for that wrong URL on Google and it will give you the right one. The next thing you need to know is how to search on the internet. You must pick on of the many search engines out there, Google is the first choice for almost everyone, and after opening it you just need to type for what you want to search. Keep in mind that Google is not magic and will only give you general results.

Using Office applications means you need to know how to use Word to make some basic documents, Excel to make basic calculations, Powerpoint to make attractive presentations and finally Access to learn how to make a data base for a costumer.

Repairing your computer means you need to learn how to make some basic maintenance and also how to open your computer and replace some parts of it when they get damage.

As soon as you learn all these things you are ready to use the computer on your own
