Table tennis is a unique sport. So much so that some even consider it not as a sport, but really as an art form. An art or sport, table tennis is enjoyed by people who appreciate its beauty and the mental aspect it incorporates. Great skill and strong mental training is a formula to conquer table tennis game.
To master table tennis consistency in training is of utmost important. Skills and technique at table tennis develop over time with experience and exposure in big tournaments. Other than that, mental strength is one of the determining factors that can changes the outcome of a game. So mental training in table tennis should not be overlooked because its importance is so paramount that it could determine the outcome of a table tennis game.
In big tournaments with a higher stake such that involving country or nation, mental strength is one of the deciding factor to determine the outcome of the game. Mental strength is important so that a player can gives focus and minimize all those possible mistakes. Winning or loosing depends on mental strength as much as skill and technique because by having a mental strength, a player can develops a rhythm of consistency and unleash a combination of the best possible tactic and strategy of accumulating points
Mental strength plays an important role in table tennis because without it, even a good player could not deliver to the fullest of his ability. It is no secret at all that mental strength will bring along a great action indeed. But most important of all is mental strength will gives focus that really needed. With mental strength, there will be consistency in strokes and a confidence in defense and attacking alike.
In table tennis, accuracy in attacking and a solid defensive play really needs concentration and focus that will come only with mental strength. A strong mentality also gives confidence. With confidence you could control your game better. You could then use your physical strength wisely and unleash your deadly weapon when it really matters.
More than any other sport, table tennis is a competition of skill. It is not about physical strength or brute force only. A skinny but skillful player could beat a bigger opponent without much skill in table tennis without any fuss at all. No matter how big or strong you are physically, what matters in table tennis are skills and mental strength.
There are many aspects of skills in table tennis. Spinning a volley is one of it. To spin a volley, you must gauge the ball situation and its acceleration. A strong attack is great. But with a good spin, you could kill off your opponent with smarter moves. You could save much more energy and get points much more effortlessly.
All of these skills need to be developed by much training and strong mentality utilized wisely. In a game, stronger mentality means better control and wiser moves. A wise move means a utilized energy and generating points with minimize efforts possible. It is because in tournaments player will play for a longer duration and under more intense pressure.
The atmosphere in a big tournament is much more different than your daily or normal challenge. In big tournament there are fans and crowd who jeer and taunt you. In this situation, mental strength plays a vital role. Without mental strength, your game will be a total failure and you will end up playing like kids or junior players.
Mental strength must be developed and utilized in any training regime of table tennis. Its importance could not be denied. Any great player would readily testify to it.
