Poetry: Recession

by Damion Hamilton

Created on: April 08, 2009

For me, it seems like

it's always been a recession

i mean, when I got out of high school

i worked the low paying jobs,

some were bad, some were good

but they were always low paying:

convenient store clerk, grounds keeper, warehouse

worker

and now, it seems like

everyone is catching up with me

at the nadir

I read the newspapers,

listen to the radio

check on line

hear the news reports on television

and things seem to be very bad:

banks getting bailed out, plants closing, people

being put out of their homes, the unemployment

rates going way up,

if you have a job you are fortunate, no matter

bad it may seem

read the police blotter: more violence in the streets,

and in the homes,

people are not afraid to rob banks now-

they are desperate, cuz perhaps the banks

have been robbing them

what? another store or business has

closed

people are spending less, saving pennies

and everyone is afraid to say:

DEPRESSION
