Definitely, there's no question about it. I love that it is, and I'm not even deaf. Seriously, how would you feel if someone were deaf, and they can't enjoy a movie as an entertainment the way you, or I can, because they can't hear? I think it's great to be able to allow more audiences enjoy a movie as much as possible. This is a no-brainer for me. This is a great improvement that the movie industry has put forward, allowing the subtitles option on DVDs. Honestly, it's one of my favorite things about DVD, along with the zoom feature. Some dialog that's been disputed in the past, isn't possible with captioning. Did you ever hear a character whisper, and want to know what they said? But you can't quite make out the exact dialog? Oh, that used to annoy me to know end. Now with the subtitles, I can get exactly what they were saying. I love it!

You know, the other night I'm sitting there watching a movie. Sometimes the sound quality, overwehlms the dialog, and makes it difficult for myself to hear exactly what is being said. With subtitles, it makes it easier to know literally, exactly what dialoge is being used. I mean sometimes a scene is happening so fast, it's hard to really tell what was just said. Not to mention the foreign films we now get to experience, now that films are captioned. There's a lot of great foreign movies that we couldn't experience before, but now can because the dialoge is made visaul at least, if not audible.

Now, I realize some old-school movie fans are somewhat against this. They feel that reading the dialog, takes away from seeing the actual scene, mannerisms that go along with the character, and or ark of the story. I realize that not the entire movies story is told in dialog. Hey, that point is well noted. Guess what, no one forces you to read, or use subtitles, so don't use them if you don't like them. Why can't more movie goers have options made available to them? So that point is a bit moot, when the dialog is still crucial to the viewer, and part of the picture. Back in the old days, when they're was no sound, they used captioning to tell us what is going on in that particular scene. Should they have not used it then, how they heck would we know what is going on?

Not everyone has the surround sound and some movies actual sound isn't to par, and picking up dialog in movies isn't always easy. I think all movies should be captioned, to make it easier for all parties to understand the dialog that can be crucial to the picture being made. No one forces you to have to use it, I wouldn't want to watch a movie just captioned with no sound. Why can't people who have hearing problems enjoy the movie at it's full capability, like the rest of us
