Memoirs: Cats who act like dogs

I have had cats my whole life, and have always respected them as almost majestic beings. However, deep down I have always wanted a dog, but for one reason or another I have not been able to have one. Not to say that I have settled for cats, but that is the only type of pet I have been able to have.

About a year ago, a friend of mine had a death in her family, leaving the decease's cat orphaned. Panicked for the cat's well being, my friend begged me to adopt Kitty. The day Kitty and I met, I was concerned because she seemed lethargic and possibly a little feral. I am happy to report however that after the time that is passed, Kitty is the most well adjusted cat anyone could ever imagine.

Well, that is besides her very unique behavior.

It all started when we noticed that Kitty loves to dig. She digs in her litter box, not just a little though...I often think she is trying to escape to China. She also digs (or pretends to) almost all the time. She has actually made floor tiles come up from her digging. She then tries to hide things in her pretend holes. Things like food, toys, and anything that looks interesting to her.

Kitty loves to have her belly rubbed. She loves to lay down right beside someone, on her back and have her belly rubbed. In fact, this has proven to be not only annoying for Kitty, as it is for many cats, but has soothed her to sleep at times. Nothing gets that good old cat engine going like a good belly rub.

One day, Kitty started greeting me at the door. She hears me fumbling for my keys, then runs to the door and greats me with a very enthusiastic meow and content purring. She then continues to follow me around the house until I kneel down and greet her...to which she then licks my face.

I don't believe that Kitty would be the best guard dog, but she would definitely be the most friendly dog.

Kitty also gets very annoyed by her most uncontrollable tail. She spends much of her time running around the house chasing her tail, and sometimes runs around in circles just as dogs do.

Unfortunately, Kitty does not play well with other cats. I was once woken up out of a sound sleep by hearing outright growling. Another cat had come up to our sliding glass window, and Kitty did not appreciate the company. She was growling, lunging at the door, and begging to go outside (however she is not an outdoor cat).

There are so many things I could say about why kitty is truly a cat who thinks she's a dog, but I would be here all day. The absolute most important thing is that in my search for "man's best friend" I found her, she just meows instead of barking!
