the SOBs!
7. The Changeling- George C. Scott is outstanding. This is a typical haunted house movie. What makes this movie creepy are the strange noises in the house. My favorite scene is when George C. Scott throws a ball into the river, only to find it bouncing down the stairs, wet, once he gets home.
6. The Howling- This was the first werewolf movie I saw and it has the best transformation scene. The ending is great when the news anchor woman turns into a werewolf on TV.
5. Pet Sematary- I was around 13 when I saw this in the theaters. I slept with my light on that night. A little kid being hit by a semi and coming back from the grave, what's not creepy about that? I remember that scene, with little Gage running into the street, dad running after him trying to stop him, and the big semi barreling down the road. I remember thinking, "They're not going to kill the kid." Then, BAM-O, "Holy crap, they just killed the kid!" The only thing you see is a bloody shoe. The creepy kid, the cat, and the wife at the end is truly terrifying.
4. Dawn of the Dead- The original is better than the remake. Zombies are slow, not fast! I have only seen this movie a couple of times, but it is so creepy, I don't know if I could watch it again.
3. Night of the Living Dead- I saw this movie when I was about 8 unbeknownst to my parents. They left the door open to our den, and with my bedroom door open, and my bed positioned just right, I could see the TV. I don't think I slept a wink that night.
2. Michael Jackson's Thriller-I know this is not a movie, but this scared the mess out of me as a kid and started my love affair with zombies.
1. Jaws- Jaws is the first movie I remember seeing. I was around five, and why my parents let me watch it is still a mystery. I remember thinking that Jaws was under my bed. It wasn't until I was around 13 that I could watch Jaws, again.
Honorable mention: The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. You try watching this movie when you're four and see if you think it's a comedy. What the heck were my parents thinking?
Well, there you have it folks, my personal top twenty horror movies. Let me know what you think. What movies do you think should be on the list? I hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween! Be sure to check back often.
