World of Warcraft: Is it a waste of time?

Azeroth is a world of many lands, various creatures, and diverse inhabitants. It's a world where one is liable to get lost in if one is not careful. It's a world within the pixels of a popular online game: World of Warcraft. Now, is this game a waste of time? My personal answer would be a resounding "Certainly not"; however, I think the answer to this question is completely relative.

I read a good number of the articles in this topic before I decided to write my own. While there are some very good ones, both agreeing and disagreeing with my own opinion, I found a few that seemed a little unfair. As someone who enjoys playing this game, I was a little offended at some of the things others have said about gamers. I believe that, whether the game is a waste of time or not, depends entirely on one's ability (or lack thereof) to manage one's time properly. There was one article that correctly stated that it takes a great deal of time to participate in end-game raiding and to hold a guild leadership position. However, I would disagree with how the article stated that people who play this game have nothing better to do with their time.

I manage my own guild (and a successful raiding guild, at that) and while I do enjoy unwinding after a long day at school and work, running errands, and doing other such chores, I don't fully appreciate being labeled as someone who has nothing better to do than to play. In addition to my responsibilities as a guild leader and as an end-game raider, I find the time to enjoy my other hobbies, as well. I am a great lover of books and am the kind of person who is able to read and fully comprehend a 700-page book in about 2 to 3 days. I devour books like there is no tomorrow. I am also a passionate writer, currently working on a novel. In addition to my major-related courses, I have finished Japanese I and II and will be continuing on to Japanese III. It's a lot of work to learn a new language but I am enjoying it. On the topic of school, I have steadily held excellent grades in my classes and hope to continue on to medical school after I graduate. In addition to school and work, I also have my share of familial responsibilities. Ever since my mother had a stroke 7 years ago, I've taken over running the household. I was only 19 years old when it happened and I was able to do all of the cooking, cleaning, running of errands, and driving my mother to her various doctor's appointments. So you see, I am quite productive with my free time and
