Poetry: A shoulder to cry on

Along he came, A knight in shining armor.
He said I was beautiful. Like an angel.
I laughed, and said "really?" Raised an eyebrow.
All twisted inside, Wrapped up in another world.
I stayed strong. And along he came again.

And said "Hello angel." And I gave that empty smile.
So wary of kindness, too frightened to trust,
Hating myself, and locked in a cold world.
A patient, kind touch. Compassionate and caring.
You stayed for so long. And in the end I yielded.

I lay my head upon your rough shoulder.
And opened up those clenched petals,
And begun to flower, I opened my heart.
Sobbed into rough fabric,
Drank in unfamiliar scents.

You said nothing, just held me.
And let me rail against injustice.
You brought me back to reality,
By placing a gentle finger beneath my chin,
Tipped my head back, and sought my mouth with yours.

But I was gone in an instant. Smiling shyly.
Shaking my head. Feeling betrayed.
I gave you my innermost thoughts, I wanted you to listen.
And truly understand.
I trusted you.
