Have you had a mullet since the 70's? Are you still wearing 60's makeup? Have you worn the same party dress to the last five Christmas parties? If you answered yes to any of the above, or if you are just bored perhaps you should try reinventing your look. So, where do you start?
The easiest fix is to begin wearing a new kind of jewelry. Look in an old jewelry box and see what you can find. By resurrecting old jewelry you have a new look without spending any money and jewelry from your childhood is probably in style again. On the flip side, if you have always worn a lot of jewelry try scaling down or wearing none at all.
The second thing you could do is vary your makeup. As we get older our skin changes, our faces change and so should our makeup. Look at your makeup and try to remember when each item was purchased. If you can't remember, get rid of it. Try a different color; put it on in a different way; add different liner, anything that will be fresh. If you wear a lot of makeup try going without any. If you wear none, try some just for fun. A tip, play with your makeup when you have nowhere to go, that way if you look like the bride of Frankenstein only you and your loved ones will know.
Clothing style is another way to alter your look. If you have been wearing jeans and t-shirts since you were 18, try a skirt, or a pair of slacks. Add a button up shirt or a frilly blouse. These are things that will transform not only how you see yourself, but how others perceive you as well.
Don't forget an unusual accessory. Funky belts, pins and purses can enhance any look in a minute. It is often believed that your purse should match your outfit but that is not necessarily so. Today an attention grabbing purse can help you look hip.
Another accessory that has an instant effect on your style is glasses. If you wear them get a different kind of frame or try contacts. Also remember that if you wear glasses you can wear darker eye makeup. If you don't wear glasses try a pair that has clear lenses. The difference in how you come across will be startling. It is said that people who wear glasses look more intelligent and who wouldn't like that?
Finally, transform your hair. If you have always had long hair be brave. Find a salon you trust and ask them to cut it off. It sounds drastic but going from long to short could make you can look thinner or even younger. If not shorter, try a bang. That small amount of hair on your face creates an air of mystery. If your hair is curly invest in a flat iron and wear it straight or if your hair is straight go curly. Add highlights or a completely different color. Any major variation in your hair will help you redefine who you are instantly.
The next time you are feeling bored, look in the mirror and change something. That change can bring a feeling of peace and well being. The smallest difference will add confidence and allow you to face the world with a refreshing outlook on life.
