How to backup your computer data

Before I begin to explain how to take up backup of a computer. I would like to explain you, What do you mean by Computer Backup & why it is needed.

What is Computer Backup ? Why is it needed ?

Computer Backup is storing your files on other medium rather than on hard drive. It can be external hdd(harddrive), floppy disk, CD(Compact Disk), DVD, Flash Drive, etc. The reason we backup our files is to protect against the events that destroys data and make it unavailable. So to avoid these kindof situation we backup data.

How to backup your data ?

Computer data is backed up in various formats. The oldest format is using Floppy Disk. Floppy Disk can hold 1.4MB of data and there are formats which can hold more data.

CD's & DVD:- CD's provide 800MB space to backup your data and DVD provides 4.7GB of space to backup your data and files. You can also use CD-RW(read-write) on which you can write data multiple times. These days DVD-RW is also available in stores.

Flash Drives:- In this you can backup data varying from 1GB to 32GB as per your requirements and size of your flash drive.

External HDD(hard drive):- It is a device which is portable to Operating Systems we use today. Connects through USB port, Its a plug and play device.

Except backing up data in these ways we can also backup our whole system by using NT backup available in Windows operating system. By using NT backup we can backup files, folders, system state(useful when OS corrupts or fails to load), etc.

How to backup data using NT backup ?

Go to > Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup

or Start > Run > type ntbackup

From this window you can backup files of your system and even store it. You can also schedule your backup as per your requirements, it will automatically take the backup of particular files or system (as you mention). Usually data should be stored on CD or DVD after backing up to make it more secure.

Recommended backup by me ?

We can backup our data easily & carry it anywhere we like to by using CD's and DVD's, and it also stores more and enough data needed by us. But today, mostly students and professional people use Flash drives to backup and carry data. And for office use I strongly recommend to use NTbackup to backup data as it saves time and backup whole systems data very easily.
