Spring is finally here with summer soon to be on its heels. It is crunch time ladies to update your spring and summer look with the latest trends from the Spring/Summer 2009 runway season. Spring/Summer fashion and beauty has returned to a simpler aesthetic that appeals to all sizes and walks of life.

FASHION TRENDS OF THE SEASON

Shirts

Trends in spring shirts center around the most prevalent trend of the season: fabric manipulation. Ruffles are the favorite rendering of this trend. This ultra feminine design detail is found mainly around edgings such at sleeves, necklines, and hems to make any woman look quite coquettish. Some of the more daring and flirty uses of ruffles are found along the neckline creating a flounce effect that softens any look.

Bottoms

Spring pants were made trendy by staying monochromatic in lighter hues for the daytime. Loose silhouettes complement the flouncy feel of the popular ruffled shirts. Fabrics used ranged from lightweight denims to sheer silks in full leg and cropped styles.

Dresses

The trendy dresses of the Spring/Summer 2009 season are simply breath taking. With an ethereal feel that brings to mind the song "Earth Angel", the dresses of the season leave no doubt that femininity still is alive and well. Using the empire waist/Grecian influence dresses in light weight silks are fitted at the bust line and cascade from the empire waist.

Beachwear

Beachwear trends for the summer encompass three of the four top trends for the season. Bikinis in colorful graphic and optical prints abound this season. One pieces and cover-ups are vibrant in light colors or white with smocked, shirred and gathered detailing.

Accessories

The trendy accessories of the season range from bold metallics to fun graphic and op art prints. The shoes and leather handbags of the season made beautiful use of metallics. In addition, chunky, graphic jewelry and satchels bring added fun to the flirty feminine trend of the season.

Hairstyles

Hair this spring fit into two basic categories, long, loose curls or waves and hair that is pulled back into buns or ponytails. The most stunning of the two is the loose and tousled waves that graced runway shows such as Ralph Lauren's. However, the bun and ponytail are by far the easier looks to achieve this season. This look can be made to appear loosely undone with a few strands hanging loose or it can be neat and sleek.
