News From The Battlefield
Solitude casts silent shadows on the wall
and cold comfort to wrap this body in.
Mindless fingers press deeply,
massaging a need to turn inward.
No bells will ring in this empty hall,

Promises adrift on memories,
too pain-filled to set aside.
Widow before bride, the grief
denies further need of rejection
or the replacement of affections,
sampled so briefly before their passing.
