Psychologists are doing some very good business nowadays due to all the increased pressure people have to go through. Hard working people with a nearing mental breakdown seek their help to find out where everything comes from. They want to know what causes the irritation that they feel over every little thing. Why don`t they feel more at ease in their daily lifes? A psychologist with dollar signs in his eye pupils will tell his client to keep coming back and go through a long therapy, whereas a great psychologist would simply say: Step back!
The thing is: the people who feel the pressure, have created that pressure. They have created the circumstances for other people to expect too much from them. And now that they feel that the pressure on their shoulders is becoming too heavy, they want to lower the pressure but don`t know how. It is, however, less hard than you may expect.
Here are four advises that can help you to let some pressure slip off your shoulders and won`t offend your friends, relatives and colleagues in the meantime. First of all, tell the people around you to no longer call you on your cell phone, but to send you a text message. You will get back to them at the opportune moment, probably tonight when you are sitting on the couch with a glass of wine during the commercial break on television. If people know this from you, they will respect that and stick to it. But they will only do this, if you stick to it and always reply at the moment that is in your favour. You create an atmosphere in which there`s no expectation to immediately answer messages or pick up the phone in impossible places. This lowers a lot of pressure already.
Get yourself a daily routine, a weekly routine and a monthly routine. Schedule things. Every weekday you get up at 6am, to be at work by 9am. That would be part of your daily routine. Household chores, however, can be part of your weekly routine. Every Monday means vacuum cleaning day, Tuesday it`s time to wipe off the small table in the living room, etc. If some things are not necessary at the moment you have scheduled them, do them anyway. You have created time to wipe off that table now, so don`t wait until Thursday. The monthly routine includes, of course, paying the bills and larger tasks. By scheduling things you avoid running into trouble and last minute rush. It makes you feel more at ease, because things get done on time.
