Communication mediums change with the time and it makes sense as to why, even through communicating in text-message style, that it doesn't ruin real communication. People believe that because they're speaking in a somewhat "broken-down" level of communication, that it's not real communication. It's real communication, because people are communicating. Most of the people who use this break-down version are teenagers. It's how they've grown up communicating. Just like how we grew up learning how to communicate through our parents with their mannerisms and speech patterns, teenagers are learning to communicate with their own demographic.

The only difference seems to be that we were taught to communicate differently. In school, we were taught that in order to communicate, we had to speak in correctly worded and spoken sentences. Now that we see teenagers and even some adults speaking in text-message communication, it seems like communication is being tarnished when it's not. Text-message style of communication was created through a medium that is used for communication all the time. It's an advanced in the field of communication because now we can communicate with each other through our phones. Most people hate writing in in sentences, so they created their own broken-down text-message style of writing. Not only does it help the user write what they want faster, but it's easier to manage on a key-note pad that can be difficult to use.

It seems like the definition of "real" communication here is the communication of correct sentences. If you believe that to be the definition of communication, then you're basically dismissing the other areas of communication like non-verbal communication. We communicate non-verbally all the time, and most often in public. Does communication non-verbally ruin "real" communication because we're not expressing ourselves in spoken words? No, it's communication. As long as humans are communication, then communication cannot be ruined. It cannot be ruined because even if it's through text-message style, or jumbled words, or made-up ones, we are still communicating with each other.

Throughout history, various mediums of communication was created that focused on the time that it was invented. In our current era, technology is everything. That's why we have more people talking in text-message style, it's what they know in terms of communicating. When humans could first write, they wrote on stone. Did this ruin communication? No, it only enhanced it. We have to take a look at history's previous mediums for communicating with each other, and look at the various mediums we have today. Are they truly different? In a sense, yes, but the idea is to make it easier to communicate. Text-message style of communication makes it easier for phone users to communicate with each other, and as long as humans are communicating, then communication is not being ruined.
