If we were to look back at moments in our lives, especially when in the company of someone we care about, we would probably be able to recall a moment when we either pre-empted, or were pre-empted in a thought, action or word. At the time there was no intended intrusion from either party, the communication coming naturally and without attempted influence.
Mind reading, while considered the realm of charlatans and entertainers, does give cause for investigation. Psychologists and scientists are aware that the brain emits waves in varying frequencies, these frequencies changing according the emotional and psychological state of the subject. It stands to reason therefore, that the brain is also a receptore, and isI'm sure, receptive to emotional states emitted by others without the need for verbal communication. How often has our mood changed when affected by the ambiance of a social occasion? This mood swing, often finding us confused and annoyed, is actually the fault of a certain individual or set of individuals in the gathering and has nothing to do with our own state of mind.
Sometimes called residual emotion, we are able to subconsciously draw on the emotion of the surrounding environment, and then take on that emotion. At its lowest level, this is mind reading. It stands to reason therefore, that if we are able to empathise with another's state of mind, it must follow that the possibility for greater reading possibilities do exist, even if we are unaware of their presence.
How often does it happen where an idea, which we believe to be original, arrives and is seen to be original, only to be repeated by someone else within hours or if not, days of our discovery. Perhaps telepathy and mind reading are both an integral part of the brain wave theory still being investigated by scientists.
Mind reading, while possibly still sub-conscious, is a real phenomenon. There are too many incidents where thoughts and actions have been pre-empted prior to the revelation by a second or third party. Whether we are able to consciously engage in the thoughts of others, is yet to be proved, and perhaps it is a communication skill which comes with evolution, but I am sure that mind reading is with us every moment we are in contact with another sentient being. We've all heard the phrases, 'I've read his/her thoughts', or 'we are soul mates'. We still have a lot to learn about communication, especially when verbal communication has proved itself to be so inadequate. Perhaps mind reading and telepathy are the next step on the road to improving our relationships with others.
