How to reinvent your look

"Reinvention". There is something about that phrase that strikes fear into the souls of us mere mortals! It sounds so complex, so exhausting and something best suited to the likes of Madonna (who coined the phrase "reinventing oneself) or Cher (who only modestly ever "reinvented herself). I prefer to use the term "rejuvenating" oneself, after all, that's how we feel after a change rejuvenated!

Before you run for the nearest, darkest room in fear of being de-constructed and rebuilt, let me assure you that "rejuvenation" can be a most pleasurable and simple procedure. Whereas "reinvention" denotes a sense of changing oneself completely and from the inside out, to the point where you have lost your true self and are now "faking" this new persona, rejuvenation only requires a little revamping of the outer shell.

Lets look at painless methods of "rejuvenation"...

For a change without breaking the bank, one may consider a small addition to ones closet. Perhaps a little pair of funky pumps to replace the tattered hemp sandals that you have faithfully hauled from the darkest depths of your closet every summer for the last 6 years. No, dust is not attractive, that's not what "chabby-chic" refers to.
A nice pair of jeans to replace the elastic waisted stretch pants that have not been in style since "Flashdance" was a hit movie may be a way to ease into your transformation. A new purse is always a great accessory!

Change need not be drastic. No one is expecting you to leave the house as plain Jane and return as Carmen Electra. That is not a comfortable nor is it a natural progression of your style. Small steps will comfortably introduce you to trying new things. A new shade of lipstick leave the frosted pink in the dresser and splash on some spicy browns. Ditch the pants and try a nice streamlined skirt if you don't like your legs find a flowing longer skirt with a pair of elevated boots.

Now, I don't recommend fleeing to the salon in the midst of a mid life crisis and pleading for green hair, but I do recommend a trim, maybe a slight color change that could include some highlights or lowlights that will compliment your complexion.

Gentlemen, please don't feel as though I have brushed you aside I am getting there , I promise!

I, personally believe that it is easier for a man to undergo a change of style all it takes is a new shirt, new hairstyle, and the possibility of growing or losing a goatee. Something as simple as a change of cologne (or the addition of cologne in some cases) to make the ladies heads turn. Get rid of the sneakers and don a pair of bike boots! Lose the indigo denims and grab a pair of faded black! On the other hand, we can add a smart but casual jacket and throw it over a nice clean T-shirt and a pair of casual jeans. Spike up that hair and get it off your face! Tousled hair is sexy, stylish and couldn't be easier to maintain

The most important point to remember is that no matter what you choose to do, you must be comfortable. With comfort comes confidence. Know your boundaries and push them just a little just don't kick them too far out of sight! Stay within your comfort zone but don't be afraid of what others will think you will always be your own worst critic.

A few years ago, this procedure was called a "make-over" why did we have to make it sound so complicated and painful?... I'm off to the salon....Im thinking Magenta!
