Poetry: Handle with care

I've not yet figured out

As I study your lovely face

If you are a ticking bomb

Or a fragile porcelain vase

If you are just a warm spring rain

That will briefly pass

Or the eye of a hurricane

Leaving ruin and broken glass

Did you get everything you ever wanted?

And nothing that you needed

From lovers that you sent away

After they cried and pleaded

Your heart is like a puzzle box

That hides a secret treasure

A mind that is a maze

Lips that promise only pleasure

You speak in words mysterious

With truth and contradiction

Eyes that cannot see inward

Dance with sly suspicion

No one denies your goodness

And innocent child like charm

But the raging fire that lives in your gaze

Gives some cause for alarm

So I tap the minefield

With a long straight willow stick

Waiting for the big one

To kill me like a brick

You told me that you love me

And I may love you if I dare

I reach for this love with both my hands

But must handle it with care
