Fourth of July party ideas

It's almost Fourth of July. You have hung your flag at your house. You have pulled out your stars and stripes shirt.

This year, why not throw a party for family and friends? It's a great way to celebrate this patriotic day. Below are some Fourth of July party ideas.

* All-American Cookout

Millions of people grill out on the Fourth. Why don't you be the neighborhood patriot, and host the cookout in your backyard?

Since the economy is tough, you may want to politely ask everyone to contribute to the food and drink. Oftentimes, hosts these days provide the bread, condiments, cups and sodas.

They ask their guests to bring whatever they would like to grill, whether it be ribs, burgers or hot dogs. Also, guests bring casseroles or appetizers to share with others. They bring coolers with beer or wine as well.

Do not feel cheap about asking guests to bring their own goodies. Times are far different than they were 20 years ago. Again, you are putting a lot of effort into hosting the party, and your friends and family will greatly appreciate that.

You can also have a few friends over the day before, and you can have fun decorating your home and yard for the Fourth. There are lots of festive things you can do with red, white and blue decorations. And, it will put everyone in the mood to celebrate.

* Pool Party

If your backyard or apartment complex has a pool, then an afternoon pool party will be a great hit. It's very easy to prepare for, as the pool will provide the main form of entertainment.

Your guests can enjoy playing volleyball or other games in the pool. You do not have to provide a whole lot in terms of food and beverage for an afternoon pool party.

You may want your guests to bring their own coolers, and you and some of your friends can provide various snack items. Salty treats such as potato chips or chicken fingers are always good to munch on while at the pool.

* Fireworks Display

If you live in a city, one of the advantages is that there will likely be a fireworks display at a park or other landmark. You may want to get some friends together to attend the event.

You can provide cocktails at your place prior to going to see the fireworks show. Then the group can go together to see the show together. Fireworks are such a tradition on the Fourth, and it's really fun to watch the gorgeous fireworks light up the sky.

* Picnic Gathering

The Fourth of July is perfect for a group picnic, if you are not in a part of the country that gets incredibly hot. You can rally your friends to go to a park in your area for a picnic. It's an easy and wholesome way to commemorate the event. Fried chicken, potato salad, coleslaw and cupcakes make a great menu for a picnic on the Fourth.
