Can homosexuals be "cured" by religious intervention

One of the articles written on this topic mentioned the fact that "illnesses and diseases can be cured" but that homosexuality wasn't a disease and thus therefore couldn't be cured. I couldn't agree more. Homosexuality isn't an illness, it's a sin issue. This is not a popular school of thought in today's culture. The sad thing is that this isn't even the most accepted idea in the church today. Just take a look at the Episcopal church. The Bible says "that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God, neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) God's Word says that all types of sinners are destined to be kept out of Heaven. In fact, all the unrighteous are destined to Hell, and "None is righteous, no, not one." (Romans 3:10)

Another section of the above mentioned article talked about all of the influential gay people in various professions. I don't really see where they were going with this. Gary Glitter (singer/songwriter), Roman Polanski (film director/producer) - Child molesters. One's accomplishments don't excuse one's sins. We are all sinners and we are all held accountable for those sins.

This is all to say that, while homosexuality isn't a disease, it is a sin, just like so many other sins that people commit. This can be a huge mistake that is made by so many in the Christian community. The gay man in the second row pew is no more condemned than the unmarried couple having premarital sex in the forth row or the guy cheating on his wife in the pulpit.

The topic is whether or not religious intervention can "cure" homosexuality. The answer would have to be "no." Sin is not a disease to be cured. Sin is the human condition that we all contend with, it's been human nature since Genesis 3. Sin, be it homosexuality, adultery, fornication, or any other sexual sin, or sin in general, is the condition that all human beings are born into. The only person that can "cure" the sin condition is the Great Physician, Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, on the authority of God the Father.

There is no room for religion in this. Religion comes from people, from works, from threats, from bargaining, none of which lead to sincere change. And only with a sincere change of the heart, a turning away from sin and towards God (repentance), there is a cure. I'm sure this is not going to get me a good rating. I'm sure that a lot of people are going to score this article negatively as soon as the connection between homosexuality and sin is made. In today's culture it is deemed as intolerant, but Jesus was exclusive, not tolerant. He hung out with sinners, but always called them to repent of sin, just like he called religious people to repent of religion.
