Poetry: A shoulder to cry on

by Bobby Neal

Created on: April 06, 2009

Pay no attention to the tattoos and scars,
And I'll ignore the soreness.
I am happy to supply you
A shoulder to cry on.

Speak slowly, raise your voice,
To get through the ringing I always hear.
I will pay attention and give you
An ear to speak into.

No matter your frown and red face,
Your frizzled hair and fast running mascara.
I'll put on my spectacles and squint my
Eyes to see past fleeting appearances.

I am too weak to carry you,
I wrestle to bear my own weight.
But please use me as a crutch,
A body to lean on.

I don't have much, which is fine by me,
That is to say, my needs are few.
But what little I do have,
I'll gladly share with you.

I can not solve your problems,
Never could resolve my own.
All I can recommend is that you rest here with me
And give your mind room to reflect.
