HER LEGACY LIVES ON
Today they laid her body to rest
This innocent girl of seventeen
God knows she tried her very best
But the pain was too much for this teen.
As I watched in tearful silence
I just could not help wondering
Why did she die, it makes no sense
And when will be stop this suffering.
We are all cut from the same cloth
So why treat others differently
Let this be a lesson well taught
This child had to die, to be free.
Today I walked a mile in her shoes
And I pray you too can see
She gave her life so we can choose
To unite in the fight for equality.
Today I lost a precious friend
Whose warmth and caring touched everyone
But even though her life had to end
Her legacy will always live on.
