If I try to explain
What is making me sad
I need you to listen
Without getting mad
If I need to just talk
And let something out
I need you to hear me
And not scream and shout
I know that you love me
But this is not about you
It is about my feelings
And thinking thoughts through
I was hoping that you
Could be that safe place
Without expectation
Of a smile on my face
For I am not perfect
Nor will I ever be
I cannot always fulfill
Your happy fantasy
I'm not asking you to fix
All things that may be wrong
I only ask that you will be
The shoulder I cry on

A shoulder that's firm to your touch,
A friend you can love and rely on,
When everything's
