Delhi 6 movie could have been better. Overall it turns out to be an average story which is not able to impress the audience. The movie revolves around Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) who is a NRI from New York and comes to Delhi city, India. He is unfamiliar with Indian culture. The movie explores people and their life in Delhi city.
Let us go in depth of this movie to know why it does not strike the right chord. If you talk about the script then it is not so good. A normal spectator can try to understand, but the first part is just terrible and tests your patience. Roshan father's story is also included to create the background. His father was Hindu, but he loved a Muslim girl Fatima. He went against all his relatives and married her. The situation was not in his favour at that time and hence he had to leave Delhi city with bad feelings.
Roshan's grandmother emotionally forced him to come to Delhi and lives in India for a few days. He is taken aback with behavior of local people and impolite attitude of police officers. For the first time in his life, he comes across so many new events. He saw corruption, distrust, misconception, lack of co-ordination and hatred among common people. Initially, he tries to be familiar with these activities and concentrate on good and positive side. He comes across one family which has two brothers, who are currently separated due to misunderstandings. One of the family members is Bitu (Sonam Kapoor). Later on Roshan realizes that he is in love with Bitu.
Bitu is a simple and naughty girl. She hates early marriages which are arranged against a girl's wishes. She sings very well and wishes to become Indian Idol. Bitu also loves Roshan, but does not express her feelings and desires to him. The movie walks through few interesting and sensitive issues prevailing in India. It focuses on negative and evil desires of human being. To illustrate this, the movie has a concept of black monkey which is called as "Kala Bandar" by people in vicinity. Black monkey is a symbol of those people who carry out wrong activities to fulfil evil desires. Administrators, Hindu "pundits" and Muslim "maulanas", corrupt management all incorporate the group of black monkey.
Though Roshan does nothing wrong, he is blamed and held responsible for many shameful acts. The situation becomes worse and turns into communal riots. Finally, Roshan tries to do something special to achieve his love and maintain harmony among Delhi people. The result turns out to be against his favour and people again misunderstand him. The movie has tried to covers issue of untouchables through a backward caste girl named "Jalebi".
The music is very impressive and the movie has some good songs like "Genda phool", "Masakkali" and "Maula". Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor are good. But the movie fails to entertain and attracts a small audience.
