Today's the day to clear away the past
to start afresh with paintwork that will last
to sweep away sad memories that shelter in the dust
and discard old pans that succumbed to rust.
So I'm ripping faded paper from the walls
and scraping yellowed paint flaking in the halls
making room for all thats fresh and full of joy
leaving nothing tinged with sadness to annoy.
My paintbrush swirls with aspiration
as my heart is filled with great elation
bin bags fill with yesterdays gloom
leaving me a bright and happy room.
There's no time to sit and contemplate
whats gone wrong or what was in the past my fate
as my own paintbrush now I confidently wield
and my walls once pale become a force field
reflecting futures golden hands
leading me to beauty and away from dreams of sand.
