South Carolina is known for super fireworks stands,
Inexpensive cigarettes, easily obtained handguns,
And the beaches.
I love spending a day at the beach.
Can't forget my flip-flops,
The dune sands are hotter than Hootie.
And the pavement, parking lot hell
Can peel the skin off tender feet.
The sand is wonderful when wet and cool.
I like to dig my feet in and have the waves
Attempt to dig them out.
Where the waves stop is the best place to be.
A kaleidoscope of umbrellas, beach towels,
Plastic balls and Frisbees liter the beach.
Tee shirts walking on piers and boardwalks.
Sand, beer, sandwiches, water, and life.
I love to watch girls in their bikinis,
So young and beautiful. Burning.
I know the pain they'll feel tonight,
The price of a quickly sought tan.
The taste of salt water is not so bad
As the feel of sunscreen in my eyes.
The sandpipers and pelicans provide entertainment
While the gulls help themselves to my leftovers.
I do not fear the Great White Jaws,
The jellyfish and undertow provide enough anxiety.
Sand grains in my Cheetos grind in my teeth,
Extra crunch for free.
Amazing how a day doing nothing
Can make me so tired.
I need two showers and to rest in the AC.
Sand in my bathing suit makes the drive home uncomfortable.

Seagull Songs
The ocean embraces the shores of my heart,
I'm lost in the songs of the seagulls.
Salt water dreaming enables
Wake up to the day
checking my clock
and oh my goodness
almost died of shock!
Slept in too darned late
right past the
I want to spend a day at the beach,
building tall castles in the white sand.
I want to gather colorful seashells,
hold them
