Poetry: A day at the beach

by Sheri Fresonke Harper

Created on: April 05, 2009

Sunning and running we melt into the beach,

coconut oil coats all of our skin complete,

shouts from children whose feet got wet,

kites hang overhead bobbing in fete

roasting over coals, the hotdogs covered with sand,

beer in can, safe in our hands,

toes dug beneath the heat find the clams

hair pulled back, to allow sun to blush our tans

These are the moments we treasure the best

the castle we built from scraps found in nests

the sunset that towered and sunk beneath waves

the kisses we shared whenever we craved.

The beach is our home whenever we escape

to the mother of us all, the deep open seas.
