Even though the couple has just recently split, Rihanna's Umbrella lyrics are symbolic of why she still refuses to file charges against Chris Brown. The song represents a serious commitment to a relationship. I believe that these lyrics are so ingrained with her soul that she will continue to have a heart for Chris Brown, no matter what the world media thinks. She has already proven it. Their recent separation doesn't prove anything relationship-wise, only business-wise. This separation wasn't from the heart but from the mind, mainly because of media pressure. While many song artists don't live by the words they sing, I think Rihanna isn't one of them. Her songs are her heart. She sings the lyrics of Umbrella with power and conviction. Let's examine the lyrics of the hit song Umbrella.

When the world has dealt its cards, if the hand is hard, together we'll mend your heart. This phrase is significant because of the Rihanna and Chris Brown altercation and the pressure of the media upon Rihanna to press charges against Christ Brown. But as the lyrics indicate; the world has already "dealt its cards" in terms of opinion. The world wanted Rihanna to dump Chris Brown and stand up for all abused women. The world wants to see Chris Brown's career ruined along with a possible jail term. This is a hard hand. Nevertheless, Rihanna says, together we'll mend your heart. At first she had no intention of following the advice of the world media. Instead, she was interested in helping to save Chris Brown's career and still has this intention even though they are physical apart. I doubt she will press charges against him.

Now that it's raining more than ever, know that we'll still have each other. This is another interesting phrase. For weeks the media had criticized the couple for spending time together at Sean Puffy Combs' mansion. Rihanna had come under strong criticism from elite celebrities such as Ophra Winfrey and Tira Banks and others for making women look weak and needful. Chris Brown was characterized as a thug who will continue to mistreat women no matter how much they forgive him. He has been judged as a possible habitual abuser. Nevertheless, they still have each other is the response in the umbrella song. The couple had become each others strength. It was now them against the world.

Said I'll always be a friend, took an oath, I'ma stick it out until the end. These lyrics appear to be the most defiant expression in the entire Umbrella song. It stresses commitment and
