Methodically atop, each stone, askew
gracefully set, a scape, pleasurable, to view
Weathering all, withstanding, time
ancient cities, stand, always, in prime
Asymmetrically sculptured, from the eye
unobtrusively, blending, with the sky
Cobbled stones and narrow, streets
soothed in whimsical, eye catching beats
Pillars adorn, each archway, with bliss
a Cherub, poised, with an arrow, to miss
Ewers and urns, spewing trailing, blooms
iron gates, protecting, perhaps, enemy, looms
Tapestries of ruins, all telling, their tales
a history unfolding, the mystery, prevails
Romantics, ponder, these walls, that speak
while time and craftsmen, indefinitely seek

The great oaken doors slowly creak open.
The city within awakens.

The ancient cities of the world proclaim,
Mans fortitude against effects of war,
Their stately embers leave a trace of blame,

Once great cities full of great men.
Your walls fell to invaders.
Your people to disease.
