The Bears are a different team if they can run the ball. It gives Rex Grossman time and confidence and will allow their undersized base nickel defense time to rest which they sorely need. They match-up against a Colts defensive line that is rounding into form, and I say that in the form of Anthony "bugger" Mcfarland. Mcfarland was picked up mid season in a trade with Tampa Bay and starting in week 16 has really played well. I do think the Bears will be able to grind out enough first downs to keep the Colts offense off the field and out of rhythm but they just don't have the weapons to consistantly put the ball in the end zone. Look for the Bears to have an edge in time of possession but to not put up alot of points as the Colt's defense stiffens against the run in the red zone.
And there is the Special teams Battle. It's Devine Hester a rookie special teams Pro-bowler against Adam Venitari. Hester has had a wonderful rookie season and his big plays have come at the most opportune times for the Bears which makes me think that he has been a little over-hyped. Is Hester a great player and can a kick-off returner change the outcome of a Superbowl, yes we saw Desmond Howard do it for the Packer in 1996, but it's rare and far between. Vinateri on the other hand is a proven performer and if the game is close he gives the Colts the confidence that he will make any kick from with-in 50 yards. This will be a game of field position but if it's close going into the forth quarter Vinateri gives the Colts an edge, and that's the edge that will win the game.
So who will win? Vegas says Colts by seven, but I don't. The Bears will make Manning struggle to adjust with there pass rush and will win the field position battle making it a close game through-out. In the end though Manning will summon one last drive and Venateri will do what he does. The spread to wide so take the Bears against the points, but the Colts will get the job done in the end. Final Score Colts 20 Bears 17
