Sitting here waiting for the phone to ring
I'd do most anything
To hear your voice on the other line
But I'll be just fine
'Cause I am just a mattress surfer
And I don't need any water
Have I ever told you that I die
At the very touch of your skin
Well it's sinking in
Is it sinking in?
Will I remember where I started
When I'm at the end?
Will you forget where we parted
When we start again?
When he looked at you I could tell
What the smile on your face meant
I was just a replacement
Maybe I should get myself out of bed today
Well anyway
Maybe I should shave and shower
In about an hour
I should probably get to eating something
But I'm eating nothing
There's alot of things that I should do today
But I, am just a mattress surfer
And I, said I don't need any water
When he looked at you I could tell
What the smile on your face meant
I was just a replacement
Have I ever told you that I die
at the very touch of your skin
Well it's sinking in
Is it sinking in?
I'm trying hard not to think of you
Before I sink into
Another happy illusion
Could have been the one
But I, am just a mattress surfer for fun
I got a letter from you in the mail today
Well anyway
Maybe I should open and read it
But I don't need that
It gets so hard to say hello to you
But so easy goodbye
'Cause I, am just a mattress surfer
And I don't need any water.
When he looked at you I could see
What the smile on your face meant
I was just a replacement
