Poetry: Escape

ESCAPIST

Come as you may, for I'm Quick and cunning,

My trail seems to fade even while I'm running.

Nothing left in my stead,

as if my total essence is dead.

there are those who choose to follow,

but find such endless pursuits hollow.

and move on to something they can grasp,

for i am the Prey with which no chase lasts.

two steps ahead, the wind at my back,

all i leave behind is more reasons to stay off my track.

yet with every inch of freedom, i come a foot from being caught,

guess " to quit while ahead " wasn't a lesson that I've been taught.

so comes the day that a new hunter claims the task,

bold in his approach, seems my capture will be fast.

nipping at my heels, he's closer than i thought,

I fight to stay free, the hardest battle I've ever fought.

but in the end, he got me...only to let me go,

for the PURSUIT of happiness was his only goal.
