Poetry: A shoulder to cry on

Comforted By The Living

Ever attentive without casting stones,
you've been so supportive when I'm all alone.
Always available when I'm in need,
I come here quite often to rest while you sleep.

Some think me quite strange that I stay with you so,
rumors are whispered that I can't let go.
Sooner or later they'll find what I've done,
and come here to take me into the beyond.

They tell me to leave and I laugh in their faces,
those mediums hurt me so much in these places.
Tonight they will come with that priest once again,
to tell me to vacate the house of my kin.

What right do they have to keep me outside?
They haven't a clue what it's like on that side.
There's nothing but darkness, I can't find my way,
I need you, my love, more than ever these days.

So next time you wake up and feel a vague chill,
just light a candle and keep really still.
I'll try not to frighten you, weeping 'till dawn,
you hold me together, one day I'll move on.
