Absolutely medical marijuana should be legalized. Put all thoughts about "Oh they just want it legalized so they can get high" out of your mind and look at it this way, we are talking about a plant. A natural substance that, without any alterations at all, can provide pain relief, stop the growth of or even shrink brain tumors, treat glaucoma, Parkinson's disease and a host of other ailments.
How can the government continue to say that, even though it would help tremendously with all these ailments, it's still going to be illegal. Think about all the other medications that we have that doctors are forced to use for pain patients that are derived from opium, again a natural plant, but it has had all sorts of other stuff added to it.
If something that is natural and can be grown in the privacy of your home can provide as much relief as the THC in medical marijuana can then I say why not?
Cancer is on a tremendous rise in this country from Leukemia to breast and colon cancer. There are so many people who are suffering. They are in pain everyday and would give anything for relief. Shouldn't we want these people to at least feel better and maybe have some relief from the pain they are forced to endure on a daily basis?
Other countries are so much more liberal and have a far less problem with crime and addictions than we do in this country. It's the whole "being told NOT to do something" California legalized medical marijuana and had a decrease in the amount of teens that were caught using.
The use of medical marijuana could definitely be government controlled and managed and that would take so much power out of the hands of dealers and people on the streets causing problems.
It would also decrease overcrowding in prisons because of people that are in there for a few months on marijuana charges. It's still getting in the prison systems and, if it was regulated things would change dramatically.
These people who are suffering from these fatal diseases need something to ensure that they can live out their lives as comfortable as possible. If using a natural herb takes the place of poisoning your body with dozens of pills then who are government officials to tell them they can't feel better?
If pharmacies can regulate the sales of cold medicines due to Meth. manufacturing then why can't medical marijuana be regulated as well? Most individuals, including those I personally know, prefer a more natural approach versus all the pharmaceuticals that doctors throw at them.
