You can, of course, sit and read all the books of the bible, and have the best teacher in this world explain all that it means. You can even listen to countless audio tapes from every possible denomination tell you their story, of their path to God. And, if you so choose, you can visit all the churches in this world, sit and pray with the people in them, and still be empty.
Sometime though, you have to be alone, alone in the desert or forest, alone from other influences and clear your mind, you have to sit and meditate to yourself, to start a journey to your inner self and look inward. Instead of hearing, you must silence yourself, and instead of looking, you must close your eyes. Ask yourself, " If all that I see and hear can deceive me, where do I find truth?"
I took these steps many years ago, and started my own path to experience God. I walked alone in the desert, my thoughts were my only companion, and of course water! But as I walked, I felt that I really was not alone, as if someone or something was with me. I felt like this the whole time, and it was odd. I waited to listen if I could hear a whisper, or a soft voice crying out. Nothing. I looked around, hoping to see the unusual, but sand and cactus was all that was there. After awhile, when I cleared my mind from such things, like a torrent of water, a rush of warmth entered my rigid heart. Love flowed in there like never before, and the feeling was overwhelming.
God knew why I was out there, what I was seeking. He, in His infinite knowledge, waited for the right moment to show Himself to me. He came to me in not a dream, or a symbol, or a shape, but in a feeling of love I had never knew. He awoke my soul, thirsty for forgiveness, wanting for peace. He gave me this gift, and I cherish it forever. I experienced His love, His compassion and His peace all at one time, and the sins that troubled me were washed away. Just as He promised.
I pray alot now, not for myself and material gain, but for people and happiness. This was the greatest gift He gave me, the gift of teaching myself to forgive others. I learned this through peace of mind, by emptying my thoughts and forgetting all that I once heard and read, and let God come to me when He thought I was ready to receive Him. I tell my friends to find or experience God, you have to let go, let your soul get thirsty, and then walk with no reason, and take steps to the unknown. Close your eyes, plug your ears, and let your heart become open, and wait. Its worth it friends.
