Poetry: Tornado

A low growl begins like a rabid dog
A white hot lightning bolt cuts through the fog
In the sky there forms a dark, dense gray cloud
In my ear the thunder echoes ever so loud
As the mists fade, the rainbow disappears
As a misfit of nature, a twister appears
Touching down fast, bringing great wrath
The twister destroys everything in its path
Leaving behind not one thing untouched
A doll in a barn, frightened child still clutched
The trail of destruction spreads far and wide
While tractors and pickup trucks turned on their side
Trees with their roots being torn from the ground
The breaking of bones is a similar sound
With the carnage continuing, the unhappy dweller
Crouches uncertain with his wife in the cellar
He silently prays for the madness to end
Back into the heavens he wished he could send
This killer of peace and raper of lands
"You ruined my solitude, go back!" he demands
One final roar and the quiet remains
The twister is gone, we welcome the rains
As the good lord in heaven cannot control the sands
"They must blow free," he says "It's out of my hands."
