Quick! Come hither! Shan't you lend an ear?
The Lords and the Ladies shall soon arrive here.
Here now how they travel! Here now how they dress!
For I rode down the trail, caught them at last rest.
The carriage sits high made of smooth cherry wood,
Fine metal for trimmings and an ornate roof hood.
Three Lords and three Ladies, three abreast as they sit,
I'm curious to know of three pairs, which was split?!
The Lords all with cloaks, one is dark, one is bright,
The third wears one drab, doesn't match, fashion blight!
Yet tall are they all, and upright with good presence,
They're dashing and strapping no match for us peasants.
They come from good blood and those royal of lines,
Their manners befit the best Lords of past times.
The Ladies, of course, travel-worn but look well,
Their spirits are good and of them I must tell.
Though long is the journey on their annual ride,
Their faces light up seeing our countryside.
They are youthful and pretty with elegance and grace,
It's like dance as they move to their own formal pace.
Their dress? The best silk that is West of the East,
All patterned poetic like you see at King's Feast.
Their hair and the scarves and the hats they adorn,
I've seen not the like ever since I was born.
What pence I would give for some time with these folk,
To visit and dine with, converse, dance and joke.
Come closer my friends and hear what methinks,
Let's dress well and greet them all with fine drinks.
Let's set up our finest and cook up our best,
Comfy let's make them, you know I don't jest.
These are our guests, they'll come through next day,
The Lords and Ladies can right here then stay!
