Forty times around the sun earth has on her journey run,
Moving e'er at God's command bearing sea and sky and sand.
Always with her silent moon, ever spinning to their doom
Dancing to a tune that's played in a Heavenly serenade.
On that spinning, dancing orb two were drawn by love's cord,
First to Him who made them clean by washing them in the stream
Of Calvary's blood shed for all to cleanse believers from the fall.
In youthful faith to Him they came seeking freedom from sin's shame.
According to the promise old He cleansed them, saved them, made them bold
To serve Him with their every breath until He took them home in death.
Before they knew each other's life, before He made them man and wife
Their lives were His to use as pleased the One who called them from their knees.
Forty plus one rounds long past since He gave them love to last
A lifetime of all that brings them cheer as well as that which brings a tear.
A year that love did swoon and groan because they each were still alone,
Single, apart, and not as one, waiting for their day of sun.
Then a snowy weekend came with icy flows on window pane
And wind that blew the sun away making it a miserable day.
People stayed within their homes feeling chills within their bones
While outside raged a storm of bright covering all with tones of white.
But in a place of shelter grand, blessed by the Almighty's hand,
Two they stood with those so near who to them were come to hear
Them say they would ever be each for the other and both for Thee.
Where they stood a radiant glow chased away the thoughts of snow.
Three days before the year would fly, God would join them til they die.
His plan to take from each a part to place within the other's heart.
Before their friends they said "I do," and forsook others once they knew.
And so began their lives as one, and snow was melted by the sun.
Forty years have come and gone, but their love remains still strong.
If he could, would he ask again; if she could would her reply remain
As it was so long ago when their flesh had yet to know
The rages of time and life? Would they again be man and wife?
There is no doubt, each would say "Give us again this wondrous day,"
When hearts were joined and joy was great and loneliness was no more their fate.
To God their loving hearts give praise, to him their joined hands they raise.
God is good, their lives are blessed. In His grace the two now rest.
