Here it is, the end of the saga of Captain Jack Sparrow and his misfit crew...or rather, the misfit crew that's served under enough captains to make their head spin but that Jack always manages to make his way back to. In the past two movies we followed the adventures of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) as they take to the seas in a hilarious adventure. In the first movie they must save the governor's daughter (and, incidentally, the woman of Will's fancy) Elizabeth from the cursed crew of the Black Pearl
under Captain Barbossa, during which Will gets a good look at Sparrow's double-crossing and self-absorbed attitude that becomes his trademark in the following films.
In the second film Sparrow is in a desperate run for his life...from Davy Jones himself. If you pledge your soul to Davy Jones he doesn't take kindly to you running off, and Sparrow's only chance to escape the fearsome ghost ship The Flying Dutchman
is to either stay on land for the duration of his life (fat chance!) or find Jones' disembodied heart which he can use to strike any bargain he wishes with the Dutchman's captain. But something goes wrong. The heart is retrieved but ends up in the worst possible hands and Sparrow is taken to a place where no living person can go. That is, unless they have the right map...
Now in this third film Will, Elizabeth (Kiera Knightley), and the whole lovable crew plus a strange prophetess and the newly-resurrected Barbossa head off into the wild blue yonder on a quest to find Davy Jones' Locker and bring Jack back from the dead. They must attempt to strike a deal with a fearsome Chinese pirate lord for the map that will take them beyond this world's boundaries and into the nether world where Jack is quite literally losing his mind.
The writers have also added in a council of pirate lords. There are nine lords and each must attend the council with their respective "pieces of eight", these pieces are passed down from lord to lord to keep the council alive. Unfortunately, one died without passing on his piece, which is why his erstwhile enemies are trying so hard to bring him back from the dead.
I loved the first Pirates of the Caribbean, I thought it was quite intriguing, well-acted, and fairly unique and gave it five stars. The second was alright, still pretty unique but with some redundant devices and the revival of some popular phrases and the like from the first one but overall still pretty good and in my opinion a four-star movie. So
