FOR THE DREAMS
There is, in my village, a Chinese restaurant and it stays fairly busy. The black haired, saffron skinned folks who run the restaurant have always been kind and well mannered with me. Their men are rarely seen because they cook. The women busy themselves with cleaning, hostessing and running the cash register.
The food offered at this Chinese restaurant is not terribly Chinese, for it has been Americanized to emphasize repeat customers. Alot of what they offer is fried food.
When I lived in Hawaii, I often visited a real Chinese hut of a cafe and I experienced as close to real Chinese as I possibly could. The place was not very clean but the food was awesome. People often wandered in still damp from a swim and wearing little over their bathing suits. It was not unusual to be surrounded by Chinese slurping their food. Yes, they slurped and it was audible. But that was Hawaii.
This is Oklahoma.
I think that people love America for the ability to make a living and the near-freedoms that are open to all. There is an extremely wide variety of goods and services available in the United States to all classes of citizens. If you are down on your luck, American's won't let you starve. We have state and federal services. We also have laws to protect those who come here, as if they'd been born here.
Also, taxes are based on your income, and one decides what one will do as a living. Nothing much is mandatory in America. We do inculcate our young with mindless chanting of loyalty to the American cause. It is assumed that the need to work, live and eat will do the job later on. Again, people choose jobs for themselves. They don't load up for the town square and be issued a work order for the day. They are not told what to think, say and do.
Sycophantism does exist. Make no mistake about it, there are heavy politics, but thanks to federal laws, immigrants have some sort of a chance. Which gives them an edge that alot of poor whites and blacks don't have.
Thus far, America still is a somewhat civilized place, even though American's are violent people. One can find trouble, even if that one is minding one's own business, but the chances are lower.
I don't know about other states, but I do know that in the village where I live, the police get involved in areas where they should not. In other words, daily politics. While they are capable of being used against immigrants by a sycophant system, again, there are federal laws they must answer to.
In other words, to come to America and thrive, one does not need a Ph.d, all one needs is a little aptitude toward the English language and very basic knowledge of human nature.
