and vegetable markets. Lastly, the Dorsoduro is the location of two of Venice's most celebrated museums; the Guggenheim Collection and the Accademia Museum.
Venice offers the visitor an extremely vast selection of cafes, restaurants, and eateries. One can choose from the enoteche, or wine bars, the bacari, the osterie, the tratorrie and, of course, the gelaterie, with its legendary assortment of Italian gelato. The bacari are the ideal places for local snacks either before dinner or for a light lunch. Osterie are perfect choices for the tourist who desires an authentic experience at a family-run establishment. The tratorrie are typically informal restaurants serving simple dishes. Venetian food is often centered around the high-quality seafood of the region, but one can find traditional Italian dishes, along with various other types of cuisine, throughout Venice.
Accommodations in Venice can be chosen according to the desires and budget of the traveler. The choices range from renting a Venetian Palace to small, privately run hotels, to apartments, to the charming and unique canal-side hotels. Prices are highest during the peak tourist season of June through September. Keep in mind, however, that Carnevale occurs in February, and the city becomes extremely crowded during this ten-day street festival.
Venice, Italy is a city unlike any other. One visit to this city rich in culture and Italian charm will leave the guest sad to leave and promising to one day return. Venice is one of those rare destinations which, for those who truly appreciate all it has to offer, resides within the visitor long after they have ventured home.
