Dreaming of becoming a contestant on the game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire hosted by Meredith Vieira? While actually sitting in the "hot seat" is a long-shot, the process of auditioning for the show is actually an easy one.
The audition process consists of two parts. Taking a multiple choice, timed test and, if you pass the test, participating in a brief personal interview with one of the young producers of the show. The auditions are held on a regular basis in New York City at the ABC Studios on W. 57th Street, usually starting in June, before taping of the new season's episodes begin. The auditions continue through taping of the season's final episode, usually sometime in November. If you travel to NYC to audition before taping begins, then that is the end of the process. However, if taping has begun, you have the opportunity to take the audition test AND attend a taping of two shows.
There is one other way to audition. Every summer, the producers take the audition process on the road. Major cities around the United States are selected and advertised on the Millionaire website. Past cities have included San Francisco, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Washington, D C. and more.
To start, visit the online website at millionairetv.com. There you will be guided through the process of selecting a date, convenient to you, to take the audition test in NYC or request tickets to attend a taping session and take the test. Depending on the taping schedule, you may be taking the test before or after taping of the show.
When you arrive at the studio, you will no doubt stand in line outside. This seems to be a requisite. Producers will approach you, ask your name and check it off their lists. If you are taking the audition test, you will be given a clipboard, pencil and questionnaire The questionnaire is used as part of the personal interview process in case you pass the test. Questions may consist of "What would you do if you won a million dollars?", "What was your most embarrassing moment?," or "What might you be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for?". So be prepared in advance. Try to be honest, but creative and exciting.
Be prepared to be screened by security and turn your cell phone off.
Finally, time to take the test. You will be ushered into a cafeteria type room with perhaps 100 - 120 other people. Numbered questionnaires in an envelope, pencils and answer sheets will be handed out. Instructions will be given and a certain amount of questions
