When your computer will freeze from time to time. This is something you cannot avoid because of the complexity of the processor, other components and even the operating system.
The only things you can do is to reduce the chance of such thing to happen plus you need to know what to do when such thing happens.
The most common cause of computer freezes is memory errors. Everything you see in your screen is not actually there but just a temporary array of data in the RAM, in a temporary older or in the hard disk. The RAM does not make many mistakes because of the way it operates, the RAM is super fast, and very accurate. The hard disk however is very prone to make mistkes because of it's speed... The operating system tries to make more out of it and makes mistakes.
The first solution is to double or triple or quadruple the amount of RAM your computer has. You should never run your machine with less than just 4 GB of it. If you can you should add up to 8GB of it because the more the better and soon or later you will need it, even for the Windows 7 that will come to the market next year.
This makes possible also for you to completely disable the virtual memory that uses the hard disk as a RAM. If you still use the normal hard disks and not the new SSD this is a great mistake because the computer will be always super slow, and unreliable.
If the computer freezes the first thing to do is open the task manager and to close the application that is freezing the system, if you cannot find one, just reload the explorer. Close it, then choose run and type: explorer.
The next reason why the computer can freeze is because of all the fragmented files all over the computer. The operating system will take a lot more time to read them all and this makes the computer more likely to enter endless loops of file division and also endless mistakes. Run an external defragmentation tool and not the windows' default.
Finally you can erase all the files you have on your computer that you do not use anymore. This is the best and also the easiest solution of all. The more files you have, the less space windows can use to work for itself, but most important of all, the more things making bad things you will have on your hard disk. Take all those files to an external device such as an external hard drive or a huge pen drive and you will see that it works.
And this is the end of the guide. Don't forget always to add more RAM as this solves half of the mistakes.
