1. Host an Open House - When you start your new business, you want people to know who you are. Getting local PR coverage is fairly simple when you host an open house. Invite potential clients (after all this is how your business will grow) but be sure to invite local and regional news editors.
2. Volunteer Project - Contact your local Lions Club, Rotary Club or other local service organization and find out what projects in town need volunteers. Once you have identified a project get your staff members involved. Issue a press release when the project is completed bragging about your accomplishments.
3. Recognition - Each time you bring on a new staff member, issue a press release. Highlight their previous experience. Highlight previous accomplishments. This is very effective if the new member is from the local community.
4. Award a Community Member - Every community has key figures. Identify a key figure in the local community and provide recognition. Perhaps someone who has done a lot of work for the local community - - "Local Unsung Hero Award" or similar award. Make it an annual event. 5. Donations - Every business needs to be a good neighbor. If you are making donations to local charities make a big deal about it. For pennies you can have over-sized checks made for presentation. Invite members of the press to cover the donation.
