Short stories: Humorous stories for children

were concerned about being left out in the weather. Now that they were alive, Glove could be vengeful and Hidey could be a joker. Well thank goodness Clippy Shears had some good sense and had come to her for help!

Elen told Clippy Shears her plan. "We have to get Sammy to help," Elen started. "She has to meet you three and learn that you are alive. We will explain to her why the tools are always hiding and she can explain it to M'gee. What do you think?"

Clippy was sceptical but willing to give it a try. That night she talked to Hidey and Glove. "We have punished M'gee enough," she began. Glove snorted and Hidey giggled, but Clippy forged on. "We have to reveal ourselves to Sammy..." she began, only to be interrupted by the angry Glove. "Are you kidding? A kid? Why should we talk to a brat anyway? What can she do?"

"She is NOT a brat!" Clippy retorted, "and she never hurt us. In fact several times, she has put us away. You know that!" Clippy snipped her shears so violently that Glove backed off. She could take off one of his fingers if she wanted to, he suddenly realised. Hidey was easier to convince, because he liked Sammy.

"I will try!" he enthused, delighted at the idea of humans knowing he was alive. "But how? I can think my thoughts and you two understand but I have no mouth for making noises."

You could move for her, Hidey, Elen suggested. I know it's not easy for you and you cannot go far but you could just hop a little bit so she sees you are moving without being picked up.

"Won't that scare her?" Hidey asked.

"I don't think so. She is a very sensible young lady," Elen replied.

So the next time Sammy was in the Garden looking for the tools, Hidey Hoe hopped. Sammy was amazed. Elen whispered in her ear "that's how they hide. They are alive! Clippy Shears can talk too. Ask her!"

Sammy picked up the hoe and then found Clippy Shears. "Are you really alive?" she asked, but she already believed it. "Yes," clicked Clippy "and so is Glove, but he is not very nice. He wants to drive your grandma crazy because she doesn't take care of us."

That upset Sammy because she loved her Grandma very much. "What can I do?" she asked anxiously.

"Get her to take better care of us," Clippy told her. If she puts us away then we won't hide from her and she won't go crazy." Sammy agreed with this and went running to M'gee. "Nana, you have to be nicer to your tools. They are alive you know! They hide from you because you don't take care of them."

Now M'gee wasn't sure she believed that although being Scottish she did believe in Fairies, but she was too nice to say anything to Sammy. "To please her granddaughter she agreed to take better care of the tools. After that they all lived happily ever after.
