Whether you are gambling to pass the time or wishing to win and make your life comfortable is a question of how you could handle the situation of becoming an addict in the vice.
Most people gamble because of an instinct that pushes them to do the act in order to augment their earnings especially if they are earning just enough to pay bills and buy them three meals a day.
Gambling made the people below poverty line an easy prey to grab them of their meager earning. The promise of a more comfortable life has always been included in the gambling package. The big bucks flashed in ones eyes as one gropes for the keys in the slot machine is what is haunting the players to keep going back to the machines in the casino.
Addiction to the vice is not impossible to people who had tried going to the casino especially if one has already tried winning in the slot machines. But whether people believe it or not, the money you have already deposited in the slot machines could be more than the money you won. The addictive part here is that people win then lose three times then win again. And the cycle goes on and on until such time that one is already addicted and it is impossible to stop. Why do people keep going back to the slot machines even if they are losing their money every time they go there? It is the urge or the strong desire to get back what they have already lost that is the challenging factor there. But it is impossible to get back what you have already lost in the casino. The machines are set to get more of your money and give you less. Unless you are lucky and you have sat in the machine that could pour out the jackpot.
But this is a rare case and you will always be the loser if you don't stop.
In the community where money is a problem everyday and where everything seems so hard to reach, gambling becomes an easy way to make a living (if you could call gambling a way to make a living). Poor people do not go to the casino but they gamble on lotto, sweepstakes and illegal gambling. In the community where I live, lotto outlets are earning a lot of money while the poor people are left without rice to cook or coffee to drink. They don't think of this because they only dream and wish that someday they will be one of the lucky winners. There are countless stories of poor people who have become millionaires through lotto and sweepstakes betting and everybody wants to become a part of this scenario.
Whether people will accept it or not, gambling is a bad vice that could become addictive. The purpose of gambling is to win and make more money but it is never that way in gambling. You lose today and you win tomorrow less than you lost yesterday. And if you don't stop, chances are everything you own would be sold, pawned or used as payment to the money you loaned. Many gamblers have been living a comfortable life before then as they get addicted to the vice, they will lose there properties gradually until one day they will end up not having anything left for them and their family. And what is worse, they could be in trouble with the loan sharks who had loaned them big bucks to support their vice. If they cannot pay then what will happen?
