When you receive your new business cards, you want them to do the most benefit. If they are in a box at your desk, they will not be effective. You have to look for ways to get your cards into the hands of others.

Place your cards in public areas. The best places to place your business cards are information centers. For example, some businesses, restaurants or libraries have an area designated for business to leave their cards. When people go to these areas, they are looking for businesses that offer the services or products they are looking to obtain. If your business card is there, it makes their search easier. If you are a member of your local chamber of commerce, there should be an information area in the Chamber office for business cards. Wherever you place your card, there need to be enough cards available so that people should be able take cards if they need that service or product. If people only see one card, they may not take it. On the other hand, if people see that the business cards are well stocked, they are more likely to pick one.

Before placing your business card, ensure that someone gives your permission to leave your cards. It would be a waste to leave your card, only to have it thrown away.

Attend business meet and greet functions. When you attend meet and greet functions, you are going to meet other business people and this is a good time to distribute your business cards. For example, you would exchange business cards with all the people you meet at a trade show.

There are times when the local Chamber of Commerce will sponsor networking functions that allow businesses to find out about other businesses in the community. You can use this opportunity to inform others of the services you provide. When you talk to them, you are trying to make a lasting impression so that they will think of you when they have a need for the service or product you provide. By giving them your business cards, you provide them with your contact information in the event they need to call you.

Turn business cards into magnets. You can buy business card magnets or you can do it yourself by applying the magnets to your business cards. What is the benefit of this? People will more likely display your card than put it in a drawer. This will make your business card easier to find when they need to utilize your services or expertise.
